This Side Up Hat is a fingering-weight hat with a cozy double-thick brim, providing a snug fit and extra warmth around the ears. Its lightweight design makes it versatile for many seasons, offering warmth without the bulk. Engaging and fun to knit, this pattern features a whimsical colourwork section with opposing direction arrows and an optional pom-pom for added charm.
Sizing: Newborn (Baby, Toddler/Child, Adult 1, Adult 2)
Fits head circumference: 36 (41, 48, 53, 61) cm / 14 (16, 19, 21, 24) inches
Yarn: Fingering weight yarn in 3 colours.

Needles: 2.5mm, 2.75mm, and 3.0mm / US #1.5, 2, and 2.5 (or size needed to meet gauge), in 16” circular needles, DPNs, or magic loop
Gauge
- 30 sts and 36 rounds = 10 cm / 4” in stockinette stitch with colourwork pattern (3.0 mm / US 2.5)
- 30 sts and 44 rounds = 10 cm / 4" in stockinette stitch (2.5 mm / US 1.5)
Notions: Waste yarn, crochet hook, stitch markers, darning needle, and pompom maker (optional)
Pattern requires the following skills: knitting in the round on a circular needle, knitting in the round on a small circumference using DPN’s or magic loop, decreasing, working ribbing, and 2 stranded colour work
Pattern uses the following techniques: provisional cast-on, working colourwork from a chart
